This is an playful exploration of Stéphane Leduc's experiments published in 1911. He attempted to prove that biological form can be created through purely chemical and physical forces. I found that at a certain concentration of sodium silicate solution, the cobalt chloride powder floats and expands into cell-like formations. Then I noticed clusters that look like onions at the bottom. A single tendril grows out from each "onion" and traps floating cobalt chloride, forming a flower-like structure when the solution dries.
