Temporal evolution of a silicone oil drop bouncing on the surface of a vertically oscillating shallow pool of the same liquid. The pool is oscillating at frequency of 50 Hz and its amplitude of acceleration is increased over time. The drop is only bouncing vertically. The image on the right shows the evolution over time of a vertical slice going through the center of the drop (red line on the left picture). This results in rainbow patterns. The top pattern (pair of thick black lines) is drawn by the bouncing drop. The bottom pattern is formed by the reflection of the drop on the oil surface.
