    Bornite with chalcopyrite exsolution lamellae replaced by covellite

At the Mullen copper mine, Kuskulana, Alaska, earliest-precipitated bornite (brown; Cu5FeS4) exsolved chalcopyrite (yellow; CuFeS2), both of which were replaced by covellite (blue; CuS) as ore fluid temperatures cooled from ~200°C to 150°C. Covellite grew preferentially along cleavage planes in the original bornite crystal. Reflected light microscopy, field of view ~0.5 mm
