This is a single-channel, UV epifluorescence micrograph of a close up of the hydra and the dinoflagellates that are seen as frizzy brown strands attached to the bivalve in the accompanying image. Here, the natural red autofluorescence of the chlorophyll and phycobiliproteins of the dinoflagellates is obvious. In the out of focus background, a natural GFP-like green autofluorescence of the hydra is evident.
