Light from a full moon illuminates the donut shaped pupil on the MEMS deformable mirror of an adaptive optics instrument. The pupil is an image of the primary mirror of the Palomar 60" telescope. The secondary mirror causes the central obstruction. This robotic adaptive optics instrument uses the deformable mirror to correct for image blurring caused by atmospheric turbulence.
