Repelling Lagrangian Coherent Structures (LCS) for a vortex ring and trailing jet. A vortex ring was formed by ejecting a column of fluid through a circular nozzle. When the ring reached its limiting size, a trailing jet of smaller vortices formed behind it. The largest, rightmost spiral indicates the position of the vortex ring, while the smaller spirals in its wake show the position of the vorticies in the trailing jet.
