This crystal structure is part of a project to design a catalyst capable of converting molecular oxygen to water for use in solar energy applications. Top: Two different perspectives of the same organometallic complex. The left image shows the two notable oxo-bridged dicopper sites. The right image highlights the carbon backbone (the large X in the center of the molecule) that holds the metal atoms in place. Bottom: Crystal packing structure of the above complex. Key: Carbon (white), nitrogen (purple), oxygen (red), copper (blue). Counterions (triflate) and solvent molecules (acetonitrile) are also present; hydrogens have been omitted.
