This video shows the movement of domains within a monolayer that forms at the interface of a graphite surface and solution of a thioether (di-n-octadecylsulfide, CH3(CH2)17S(CH2)17CH3). The molecules lie flat on the surface, and the sulfur atoms appear as yellow regions in the center of the molecules in these scanning tunneling microscope images. The rastering speed has been increased about 3-fold for the video.
