Flight trajectories of the fruit fly Drosophila melanogaster as they explore in a wind tunnel. Each dot is scaled according to flight speed, as if the animal was dribbling paint onto the canvas as it was flying. The stars indicate when the flies were subjected to a puff of wind. (Flight tracking apparatus created by Andrew Straw.)
