Ground displacement caused by the 1992 Landers earthquake (grayscale, northward positive). The sharp boundaries represent ground surface ruptures. The image was obtained from correlation of pre- and post-earthquake aerial photographs, after correction of geometric artifacts such as topographic parallax, film distortion, and aircraft attitude.
